Johnny is an AI Ethicist in Google’s Responsible Innovation team. Merging his background and interest in programming, psychology and philosophy, he did his PhD on ethics of technology at the University of Twente, where he subsequently worked as assistant professor of philosophy. He joined Google in 2017, eventually taking on the role as AI ethicist in the Responsible Innovation team, which is responsible for aligning every AI product launch with Google’s AI Principles. He also leads a team of researchers dedicated to anticipating and mitigating potential AI risks, working closely with product teams to find creative ways of optimising for social benefit and finding creative mitigation strategies.
